形態特徵

• Culms to 15 m tall, 14 cm in diam., more or less zigzag; nodes prominent with silky to brownish hairs when young; branches usually 3 per node in first year, multiple with numerous twigs thereafter.
• Sheath of culm deciduous, coriaceous, glabrous or sparsely hairy, concave at apex, truncate at base; auricles of sheath inconspicuous or very small with a few bristles; ligule of sheath conspicuous, 7 mm high, dentate; blade of sheaths ovate to oblong-lanceolate, reflexed. Leaves 8-16, oblong-lanceolate,10-30 cm long, 1.5-6.0 cm broad, veins 7-11, veinlets 7, subtessellate, densely spinulose-scabrous along one margin, sparsely so or entire along other; petiole short; auricles of leaf inconspicuous; ligule of leaf rounded, denticulate; sheath of leaf minutely hairy.
• Inflorescence a large compound panicle. Spikelets in clusters of 1-6 at nodes of leafless branches, 2-3 cm long, 4-7 mm in diam., brownish green when fresh; glumes usually 2, broadly ovate, 3 mm long, 4 mm wide; lemma ovate-oblong, acute at apex, 6-14 mm long, 4-10 mm wide, glabrous above, hairy along margins; palea 7 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, veins 2-4 between keels, 2 between each keel and edge, densely hairy on keels; ovary ovoid to vase shaped, minutely hairy above; style shod with 2 feathery stigmas; stamens 6, anthers yellow, broadly linear; lodicules 3, 1 mm long, densely hairy on margins.

分布

• 台灣 : Introduced in Taiwan in early times; planted in Pingtung, Changhua, Kaohsiung, Chiayi and Taipei for its edible shoots.
• 世界 : Native of southern China.
